Indonesia Snapper Fisheries Improvement Parthership (FIP) Coordinator

 

Background: The mission of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) is to maintain healthy ocean ecosystems, enhance fishing livelihoods and secure food supplies. The Partnership improves access to information to guide responsible seafood sourcing, and enhances the ability of seafood companies and partners to influence government fisheries policies and management practices to improve fisheries.

 

SFP works to improve fisheries through Fisheries Improvement Partnership (FIP), a collaboration between buyers, their suppliers, and NGO advisors that aims to influence government policies and management practices and improve marine conservation and the sustainability of an individual fishery. SFP and partners are launching FIP for the Indonesia Snapper fisheries.

 

The SFP is looking for a high calibre individual to assist in running this FIP and represent SFP on Indonesia Snapper fisheries. The position is expected to be based in Indonesia. The tasks of this position are to:


Strengthen working relations with key local snapper fishery companies and NGOs Forge agreements on what improvements are needed in the fishery Work with the FIP members to develop policy briefs and advocacy strategies Implement agreed priority actions effectively and on time Provide briefings to SFP leadership for use in meeting buyers.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in Snapper fishery, preferably in Indonesia.
  • Preferably has Bachelor degree in fisheries science and/or fisheries management
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work in a flexible, informal environment, and to take the initiative and work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Willing to spend up to 30% of his/her time outside his/her home base
  • Ability and willingness to travel by car and plane nationally and sometimes internationally to remote locations.
  • The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated leadership in improving fisheries management and marine conservation, and have good relations with the leading companies.
